'Won't want to let him go': Tony Cottee names two managers West Ham could look at to replace David Moyes

Tony Cottee has now outlined two managers he believes could possibly replace David Moyes at West Ham United next season.

Tonight feels like a huge opportunity for David Moyes to make a statement against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

And although it may feel a little strong to say, Moyes perhaps needs a good result and performance to help persuade all at the club that he’s still the right man moving forward.

That’s not to say that Moyes is under pressure, but there’s this constant feeling of unrest around East London.

Many fans are keen to try something new, they want to see West Ham playing more attractive football regardless of the risks it may bring.

That being said, former Hammer Tony Cottee has just been sharing his thoughts on the predicament.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cottee mentioned two possible names to replace Moyes at West Ham, but ultimately still thought a strong result tonight could change everything.

Perhaps tonight’s fortunes will hinge on Jarrod Bowen’s fitness, who is now being predicted to start by some outlets.

Tony Cottee thinks West Ham could replace David Moyes with Gary O’Neil or Michael Carrick

Tony Cottee believed that two former Hammers, Gary O’Neil and Michael Carrick could be good fits, even if they may be hard to tempt away from their respective clubs.

He explained: “If he had a longer contract we wouldn’t have this discussion. He has done absolutely brilliantly to win the first trophy in 43 years.

“If David Moyes was to go you have got Gary O’Neil who played for West Ham, Wolves won’t want to let him go.

“Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough who played for West Ham, they won’t want to let him go.

“It’s tough to get managers out of other clubs but let’s deal with this first because if David Moyes was to get the victory tonight and get through to the semi-final who knows what’s going to happen.”

Of course, Michael Carrick was said to be of interest to West Ham earlier in the year, given he has really started to make an impression in the Championship.

Appointing Thomas Tuchel would be a real sign of ambition by West Ham

And whilst both the names Cottee mentioned would be a good fit to replace Moyes at West Ham, could the club be even more ambitious?

Thomas Tuchel will be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer, a manager who likes London and was previously set to work with Tim Steidten.

Certainly one to ponder, and if Moyes is let go then it has to be for a manager who is sufficiently exciting.

That’s not to say that Carrick and O’Neil wouldn’t please fans, but Tuchel would be a real sign of intent, if that’s a deal that’s even possible.

That being said, Simon Jordan recently shared the one question he’d like to ask David Moyes right now if he was West Ham owner.
