German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has summoned the Russian ambassador following the arrest of two Russian-German nationals on suspicion of espionage and planning attacks in Germany.

The Foreign Office confirmed the summons. However, it was initially unknown when exactly the appointment would take place.

The police on Wednesday had arrested two men in Bavaria on suspicion of spying for Russia and scouting out possible targets for attacks in Germany.

Prosecutors said the actions were intended in particular to undermine the military support provided by Germany to Ukraine.
