Exclusive: Rachel Dratch Is Grateful She Was Part of 'Saturday Night Live' for 7 Years: 'It's Comedy History'

After performing on Saturday Night Live for seven years, Rachel Dratch is grateful for her time on the series.

"Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and I all started up together back in Chicago at Second City. I've known them for a really long time and then getting to be on SNL with each other was amazing. I keep in touch with the women in particular. We've all been on this long journey, and it's always fun. I get to hang out with the funniest people — and being on SNL is pinch-me moment. I used to watch it when I was little, so it's definitely part of comedy history," the 58-year-old, who is teaming up with American Home Shield, a Frontdoor company, to help enlighten homeowners of the ways how this season, even access some Zen, exclusively tells Morning Honey.

"Sometimes I can't believe I was on it, but every so often they bring you back. It's this ongoing kind of juggernaut of comedy. I'm so happy I got to put my two cents in there."

One of the actress' favorite skits is playing Debbie Downer who goes to visit Disney World. "That's the one where we all started laughing. You try to keep a straight face and you don't want to lose it, but every time you see the audience, it's so fun. Even before I did the show, when people would crack up, it reminds you it's a live show and just to have fun with it," she shares of the sketch series. "Of course you don't want to laugh all the time, but every so often you're like, 'These guys are having fun.' That's what I love about comedy."

Growing up, the comedian was fortunate enough to look up to icons such as Carol Burnett and Lily Tomlin. "There were movies starring Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler. I didn't think women were ever on the sidelines," she says. "You had to just be open and know who your idols were and learn from the best."

As for what the future holds, the Wine Country alum admits she wants to continue doing "anything comically related, whether it's TV, movies or on the stage," she says. "When stuff I read or hear makes me laugh, I feel like I want to do it. I don't have high standards, but it just has to make me laugh."

Dratch got to tap into her funny side when she teamed up with American Home Shield, where she plays Warrantina in the ads to show homeowners the path to better home care — humorously, of course.

"I was contacted to create this character for their new campaign. It sounded super fun to me. It was almost like an SNL sketch, and it appealed to me comically," she explains. "It goes along with the product itself as sort of this feeling of safety and protection and being able to feel peace and zen-like about your home."

"It was really fun! At SNL, when you have a sketch on the air, you go around to everyone, and you're like, 'This is what I have in mind for the costume, the makeup, etc.' The writers for the ad agency were totally open to my input, so we got to create her together," she adds. "They were super funny! I didn't have to do much because what they handed me was really, really funny. I was excited about it. It's been fun to work on, and I hope it gives everyone a chuckle."
