Major League Soccer and Liga MX clubs are all set to square off once again this summer in the fourth edition of the competition with Inter Miami looking to defend their 2023 title.
We're exactly 100 days out from the 2024 Leagues Cup, and the summer tournament that pits MLS and Liga MX sides against each other will be here before we know it. Miami will hope to lift the title for the second consecutive season with Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and now Luis Suarez leading the charge for the Herons under Gerardo 'Tata' Martino.
Liga MX clubs will be eager to restore dominance in the competition after Cruz Azul (2019) and Club Leon (2021) lifted the first two editions of Leagues Cup. The likes of Club America, Monterrey, Chivas and Tigres will all fancy their chances of taking home the continental trophy, while MLS big-hitters LAFC, LA Galaxy, Columbus Crew and of course Miami will also have high hopes heading into the tournament.
A new feature to the 2024 edition of the competition is the 'Groups Tier Structure,' which is "a tiered Leagues Cup Ranking system, as well as hubs for the highest-ranked LIGA MX clubs. The Leagues Cup ranking will be strictly based on combined MLS and LIGA MX club performance based on points in the last 34 regular season matches.
"MLS teams will be ranked based on the 2023 MLS Supporters’ Shield standings, while LIGA MX clubs will be ranked based on the cumulative 34 matches in the 2023 Clausura and Apertura tournaments."
Reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew and reigning Liga MX Apertura winners America will both receive Group-Stage byes and will begin play in the Round of 32.

When does the 2024 Leagues Cup start?
The group stage kicks-off on July 26, with five matches taking place on match day one. With three teams to each group, the two teams that finish in first and second place in their respective groups will advance to the knockout phase -- which pits teams against each other in a win-or-go-home situation.
Like last season, there are no draws in Leagues Cup matches. If two teams are tied at the the final whistle, each team will receive one point in their group table before going straight to a penalty shootout where the winner receives another point.
