‘Something else’: Chelsea youngster says he was absolutely blown away by ‘unbelievable’ Man City star

Chelsea youngster Alex Matos has highlighted one Manchester City player he was amazed by during a particular match earlier this season.

The midfielder joined Huddersfield Town during the early stages of the previous January transfer window.

His first appearance for the Terriers came in their third-round FA Cup clash against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium, which the Blues won 5-0.

Now though, the 19-year-old has been sharing his thoughts on this match, pinpointing one player in City’s team that he found particularly tough to play against.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Matos had this to say about who caught his attention during the defeat against City.

He said: “Who stood out for them and made me understand the level? It was Foden. He was unbelievable in that game.

“He moves so quickly, you don’t really know where he is because he is always moving. His touches are very tight, he keeps the ball close so he can find places in the box.

“He only needs half a yard and he scores. He was something else.”

Phil Foden has been unreal all season

Looking back over this win against Huddersfield, Foden scored two of City’s five goals from three shots on target in total.

He also made one key pass during his 76 minutes of action, ultimately going on to earn himself an overall match rating of 9.3/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated player on the day.

This makes it easy to see why Matos was so impressed with what he saw from the City star in this game.

It’s not just the FA Cup where Foden has shown how good he is this season, as he’s found the back of the net 14 times and supplied seven assists in 30 Premier League games.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, if the 23-year-old can help his side win the two trophies they are currently in the race for, we feel that more recognition and praise will be coming Foden’s way.
