Erik ten Hag must hand Man Utd player his first start since December 2021 this weekend

This weekend sees the famous Manchester United head to Wembley for a second consecutive FA Cup semi-final, one player should start.

For Manchester United, the success of the entire season now rests upon the FA Cup and with a winnable semi-final draw, expectations are of a trip to the final.

After beating Liverpool 4-3 in the quarter-final, it feels like a cup win is written in the script but Coventry is no easy feat, and a potential final would see either Chelsea or Man City as the opponent.

So with this in mind, Erik ten Hag has to change things up from recent weeks given the level of performance has been poor.

One change we want to see happen would see a player very familiar with Coventry come into the starting line-up for the first time since 2021.

Here’s who we want to see starting…

Why Amad Diallo deserves to start against Coventry

So taking on Coventry this weekend, there isn’t a player more deserving of an opportunity than Amad Diallo, and there are a few reasons he could get that chance.

Firstly, the right wing is a position which has been locked down for much of this season by Alejandro Garnacho.

But heading into this game, he should be dropped given how exhausted he’s looked in recent weeks, a rest would do him the world of good.

Also given the situation between Garnacho and Ten Hag after last week’s 2-2 draw, there is a chance the Argentine doesn’t automatically go back into the starting line-up.

Amad in this case has to be started as he absolutely deserves it given his promising cameos this campaign.

There is also the pretty valid point that without Amad, United wouldn’t even be in this semi-final as his goal won the tie vs Liverpool.

He’s been deserving of a chance for months now, but in this game, his chance must be afforded to him, otherwise, it might be that he considers an exit this summer.

It would be his first start for United since the 8th of December 2021, when he played 68 minutes against Young Boys in the Champions League when Ralf Rangnick was in charge.

Manchester United should start Amad as he’s raring to go

Amad played against Coventry last season while he was on loan with Sunderland and scored in a 2-1 defeat.

Speaking with club media ahead of the semi-final, he’s admitted he’s keen to feature.

“We really want to play that match against Coventry,” he told the club’s media.

“I will meet with Ellis Simms, who was my teammate, the striker. I think my teammates are ready for that game. We hope to win it and reach the final.”

Amad then continued to explain how he’s feeling since scoring against Liverpool in the last round.

“It was an incredible day for me after that goal [in the quarterfinals]. I scored the goal at the last minute, against a great team like Liverpool, so I was happy. That goal gives me a lot of confidence.

“I train every day to be ready for each game, so I was ready for that match. Whether I play or not, I’m always ready on the bench. I was excited and that goal gave me a lot of confidence.”

From this, we don’t see a reason Amad shouldn’t be starting this weekend, it’s a game tailormade for him.
