Micah Richards shares why Chelsea star Cole Palmer could actually play for England over Phil Foden

Pundit Micah Richards has now shared why he believes England could actually start Cole Palmer over Phil Foden at the European Championships this summer.

He said during BBC’s pre-match coverage of the game that he believes the Chelsea man could hold one advantage over his former teammate at the Etihad.

Palmer was of course handed the start in today’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, with another chance presenting itself to break their duck at Wembley.

The game also presented another opportunity for the 21-year-old to further remind his former club why they made a mistake in letting him leave last summer.

The fact that he sits as the joint top scorer in the Premier League alongside their own Erling Haaland is reminder enough, and their woes from 12 yards out on Wednesday will only further enforce that.

Another camp who have likely been taking note of his performances this season are England, and manager Gareth Southgate has a real decision on his hands when it comes to his staring side at the Euros.

Richards has now shared that he thinks Palmer’s versatility could see him hold an advantage over Foden when it comes to this summer.

He said: “The thing he has over Foden, he can be just as effective from the right-hand-side too. That low centre of gravity where he can take players on and link up play. A joy to see where he is now.”

Despite the fact that Palmer is not too experienced when it comes to international football right now, the same could certainly be said of him when it came to first team club football before this season began.

The speed he has adapted to being the star man at Stamford Bridge should be enough evidence to the England camp that he should be seriously considered for the starting side in Germany.
