'Could be a grave error': BBC pundit says Liverpool might be about to make a big mistake this summer

Liverpool are set for an interesting summer as they deal with the impact of Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

The Reds have been safe in the knowledge of being able to count on Klopp’s management of the team for each of the past eight summer windows.

However, after the German decided to end his association with the club, FSG will step into the unknown in just a couple of months.

It isn’t just Klopp who could be on the move, though. There have also been rumours that Liverpool could lose a couple of big names from their first-team squad.

Already set to see the manager leave, the Reds must be careful not to change too much too soon. And according to former Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray, selling one player especially could be a ‘grave error.’

Glenn Murray warns against Mohamed Salah sale

Having seen Liverpool falter over the past couple of weeks, some fans will be more than ready for a fresh new start at Anfield.

During Thursday’s aggregate loss against Atalanta in particular, you could see just how out of steam Klopp looks to have run.

The same could also be said for some of his players. One of those who has come in for some of the most extreme criticism of late has been Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian did find the net on Thursday and is Liverpool’s top scorer again. But in truth he has looked a shadow of his former self.

With interest in his services set to come again from Saudi Arabia, it seems possible that Salah could be sold this summer. But speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, Murray claimed that letting the 31-year-old go could be a big mistake for Liverpool.

“People have questioned him lately, but 24 goals, 12 assists – that’s phenomenal at any age in the Premier League, and to let him go, I think, it could be a grave error,” said the pundit. “I still think he has got loads to give.

“I understand the circumstances coming to it, the money, everything about that. I would also question him a little bit going over there at 31, to be honest. I mean, if he is getting out of Liverpool for 75 [million] and Madrid or something comes in or Barcelona, do you want to stay and win things in Europe rather than go? Saudi will always be there for him.”

Should Liverpool sell Mohamed Salah

This is a question that will likely split the fan base. If you’d have asked Liverpool fans before Salah left for AFCON in January, the answers would have been clear: no, they should not sell Mo.

Since then though, the Egypt superstar has looked like a different player. He seems to have been trying to shake off the after effects of his injury for ages now.

With Klopp going, Salah following him would feel like a true new beginning for Liverpool. If the offer from the Saudis is a big one again, they have to seriously consider it. Mo does have just one year left on his deal after all.

Of course, with six games left there’s still a chance that we see the Salah we’re used to for the rest of the season. That could put to bed these questions again. But for probably the first time ever, it feels like the majority might now be open to letting the Egyptian King go.
