I saw Mauricio Pochettino make one big mistake that may have cost Chelsea vs Manchester City – opinion

Mauricio Pochettino actually got a lot of things right when Chelsea took on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final today.

The Blues were defeated at Wembley again this evening as Bernardo Silva found the net to pile misery on them late on.

Pochettino had the blueprint laid out for him from two very competitive games against these opponents this season, and also saw his side pick up their biggest win under him earlier this week against Everton.

The manager made one change to his side from that game at Stamford Bridge, with Mykhailo Mudryk dropping out of the starting 11 in favour of Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentine was shoehorned back into the side after his recent injury woes, with the boss clearly believing that he was crucial to what he needed.

This change sawConor Gallagher move out of his recognised central midfield role, and featured on the left wing.

It was clearly not the England international’s strongest position, and all of his strengths were limited out on that side.

It feels as if this was the only area where the Blues were perhaps not set up perfectly in, with them having all of the best chances of the game.

Unfortunately, a lot of those fell to Nicolas Jackson, who never looked confident and comfortable in front of goal.

Pundit Jermaine Jenas was particularly disappointed with one of his misses, and it feels as if the very clear limitations he has at this stage unfortunately all came out to play this evening.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are able to secure a place in European football next season, with their only avenue of doing so coming through their finish in the Premier League now.
