Following the US House of Representatives' vote in favour of an almost $61-billion Ukraine aid package, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has spoken of a "day of confidence for Ukraine and Europe's security."

"A major hurdle for US aid to Ukraine has been overcome," the Green politician wrote on the platform X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday evening. "The hearts of the most important Ukraine supporters are beating as one."

The United States and Europe are standing together on the side of freedom and against Russian President Vladimir Putin's "war of terror," she wrote.

After months of deadlock, the House of Representatives passed a bill on Saturday that contains around $61 billion for Kiev. The necessary approval of the Senate is still pending but is considered certain.
