Martin Keown hails ‘value for money’ Arsenal ‘revelation’ after Wolves display

Arsenal hero Martin Keown has praised one ‘value for money’ Mikel Arteta signing as a ‘revelation’ after they produced a superb performance away to Wolves this Saturday.

The Old Gold welcomed the Gunners to Molineux for game 33 of the Premier League season but found themselves a goal down at the break. Leandro Trossard (45’) scored on the verge of half-time after a frustrating opening spell saw Wolves have the first clear chance to score.

A mistake from Jakub Kiwior gifted Joao Gomes a chance to break the deadlock for Wolves at home to Arsenal. But David Raya, just, fingertipped the midfielder’s strike onto his post to remain level. Trossard’s quick-thinking in the home area then gifted the Gunners the opener.

Martin Keown praises Leandro Trossard after scoring for Arsenal against Wolves

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus stumbled in the Wolves box under pressure from ex-Tottenham Hotspur right-back, Matt Doherty. But the Brazilian returned to his feet and cut the ball into Trossard, who wasted no time before unleashing a first-time effort into the far, top corner.

Jose Sa was helpless to deny Trossard his ninth goal in 29 Premier League appearances so far this season. Arsenal boss Arteta opted to start the 29-year-old for the 13th time this term at Molineux. But the Spaniard did not rue the decision to unleash their Belgian from the off.

Arsenal hero Keown was also quick to praise what Trossard has given the Gunners ever since his arrival at Emirates Stadium after scoring at Wolves. The north London natives signed the 33-cap ace from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023 for £20m, plus £7m with add-ons.

“There’s a suggestion, maybe, Jesus had received a foul there but he gets up quickly,” Keown told Premier League Productions (20/4, 20:27). “[Trossard] just swings a foot at it. He’s been a revelation since he came to [the] club. Value for money? £27m!”

Arsenal turned to signing Trossard from Brighton when Chelsea hijacked Arteta’s pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk. But while the 23-year-old has only offered the Blues four goals and four assists in 40 top-flight matches, the Belgian has offered the Gunners double digits for each.

Trossard scoring to break the deadlock away to Wolves was his 10th goal for Arsenal in 49 Premier League games to date. He has also offered 11 assists, although only one has come this season. The forward offered an insane 10 assists in his first 20 games after his transfer.
