Theo Walcott explains what Arsenal star did 'really well' in crucial moment in Wolves win

Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory away at Wolves to return to the top of the Premier League, in a controlled but difficult win.

Mikel Arteta’s side did control possession, and created several opportunities in the early stages but failed to take them, and they nearly went behind as a mistake from Jakub Kiwior forced a strong save from David Raya.

Arsenal were facing a Wolves squad decimated by injuries, but looked set to head into the interval with the scores level before Leandro Trossard opened the scoring with a finish into the top corner.

The goal came after excellent hold-up play from Gabriel Jesus, who rode out a possible foul to set Trossard up for the finish, and the Brazilian has now been praised by former Arsenal star Theo Walcott.

Theo Walcott praises Gabriel Jesus for role in Arsenal goal vs Wolves

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage after the game, Walcott praised Jesus for his role in the goal, which saw him take the ball down, get knocked to the ground, but persevere to send the ball in the path of his teammate.

“He gets into positions where it is hard for the full-back to actually spot where he is,” he explained.

“What he does really well is he uses his body. At times he does it quite subtly so the player, he has fouled him more than anything.

“The thing about Jesus is that he doesn’t give up, he gets back up on his feet, people don’t really expect his movement to be so sharp when he is in the 18-yard box, but the assist for which, the touch, first of all, he brings it down and it’s the way how he so quickly gets up to just lays it off for Trossard, who then slices into the top corner.”

Jesus has had a tough few weeks, but in recent games he has set Trossard up to score against both Bayern Munich and Wolves.

The pair came off the bench together, and Jesus held the ball up superbly before laying the ball off to Trossard, who planted the ball into the bottom corner beyond Manuel Neuer.

Both attackers then started together at Wolves, and Arsenal saw their control in the first half slip, but they combined to score just before half time, in what was a crucial goal in the game and the title race.

Jesus had a lively performance as he roamed around the pitch causing difficulties for the Wolves defence, and this proved to be clutch as his unpredictable movement ended up creating the chance for Trossard to plant the ball in the top corner.
