Twist as Moyes drops new bombshell on future and makes infuriating transfer claim

There has been an intriguing twist as David Moyes drops a new bombshell on his future and makes a West Ham transfer claim that will infuriate fans.

It has looked increasingly likely that David Moyes will be leaving West Ham next month.

The Moyes era at West Ham may well be coming to and end at Man City on May 19th.

The Scot is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

And since West Ham’s Europa League exit to Bayer Leverkusen, speculation has once again ramped up about potential successors.

All signs have pointed to Moyes exit

A growing section of the Hammers fanbase has been calling for a manager with a more attacking philosophy.

Moyes and West Ham’s press officer reacted angrily to suggestions from a reporter that the manager’s tenure was coming to an end after the Leverkusen second leg.

The last time the manager opened up on his West Ham future, it was to insist it is he who is stalling on signing a new deal.

A top Hammers News source very close to majority owner David Sullivan has since confirmed no decision will be taken until the end of the season.

Sarri and Tuchel latest linked with West Ham

Moyes appeared to sound a warning to his successor in a press conference this week.

It has been reported that the Hammers will part company with Moyes with Maurizio Sarri and Thomas Tuchel heavily linked as replacements this week.

All the signs have pointed to Moyes leaving the club after bringing stability, pride, European football and a trophy to east London over the last four-and-a-half years.

But ultimately West Ham’s lack of squad depth and Moyes’ failure to future-proof the team has left him exposed.

Moyes bombshell on future and infuriating transfer claim

It also leaves the Irons facing another big rebuild with as many as 10 new signings likely required this summer.

As a result many see now as a good time to start afresh with a new manager who has a different philosophy.

West Ham’s owners also hired Tim Steidten last year to lead recruitment and the potential search for a new boss.

But now Moyes has dropped a new bombshell on his future and has made an infuriating West Ham transfer claim.

Boss hints he could yet stay and prefers small squad

Fresh comments have emerged from Moyes’ pre-Palace press conference overnight.

And while he has no announcement to make yet, Moyes suggests he is ‘happy’ and may well sign a new deal at the club.

West Ham have won just four of their 21 matches in all competitions in 2024. They also have the joint smallest squad in the Premier League alongside Man City with 22 players.

Supporters have blamed West Ham’s struggles on a poor January transfer window which saw Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma, Thilo Kehrer and Conor Coventry depart and walking disaster Kalvin Phillips arrive.

So they will be furious when they hear Moyes has once again reiterated he prefers to work with a smaller squad so he doesn’t have to deal with unhappy players.

“I have nothing to announce,” said Moyes, as reported by The Evening Standard.

“I am happy. We are just getting on with the job… I said there was no real big rush to do anything and I still feel that way.

“We all know we would have liked to add (players in January) if the right things were available. But I would hate to think (it) was a discussion (just) because we didn’t have enough players…

“If I am being honest, if I had my way I would have smaller squads anyway. I would rather have a smaller squad. I always have done. You can get more problems with a bigger squad.

“Having a smaller squad isn’t bad. But when you are playing, I think it will be 57 games this season, and maybe 60 last. We have had to take a big hit.”
