'For the future': Sunderland could now target summer deal for 'spectacular' wonderkid - journalist

Sunderland ‘hold an interest’ in signing another teenage striker this summer.

Sunderland are highly likely to look for an experience goalscorer at the end of the season, having really struggled to find the net for much of this season.

The Black Cats have now only managed four goals in their previous seven games, while the four strikers they signed last summer have netted a total of three goals between them.

Supporters pleaded with the club to sign a proven striker last year, but they instead brought in Nazariy Rusyn, Mason Burstow, Luis Hemir Semedo and Eliezer Mayenda.

While the club have surely learnt their lesson already, that hasn’t stopped them from still looking to bring in players for the future.

Sunderland interested in ‘spectacular’ prospect

According to journalist Graham Falk, Sunderland are interested in signing Derby County forward Dajaune Brown.

Dajaune Brown joined Derby’s academy as a schoolboy and has moved up the ranks eversince, netting nine goals in nine appearances for their U21s last season.

The teenager trained with the first team during pre-season and eventually signed his first professional contract, before making his senior debut in August. Brown made his League One debut in October, before joining Gateshead on loan in January.

Despite waiting over a month for his first start, Brown has since lit up the National League, scoring six goals in his last ten games. He also netted a hat-trick in the FA Trophy last month, helping them reach the final at Wembley Stadium.

Brown was nominated for League One’s Apprentice of the Season and is very highly-rated at Pride Park, while he has been hailed as ‘spectacular’ and ‘stunning’ at the club.

The 18-year-old will still have two years left on his contract this summer, while Falk reported that Sunderland aren’t the only club interested in his signature.

Should Sunderland try to sign Dajaune Brown?

While fans will be eager to see the Black Cats bring in some first-team players, the addition of Dajaune Brown definitely wouldn’t be instead of a proven Championship striker.

The youngster would likely feature for the U21s and eventually force his way into the first team.

While he is yet to feature in the second tier, he could be a very promising signing and would surely have more of a positive impact than the likes of Hemir and Mayenda, who hadn’t even played in England before we signed them.

Brown is surely a prospect worth going for, but it’s understandable that supporters won’t be interested until they start to see action in the transfer market at a higher scale.
