Derby County are within touching distance of the Championship after their 1-0 away win at Cambridge United on Saturday.
Paul Warne‘s side moved on to 89 points, three points clear of third-placed Bolton Wanders, and now only need a point in their final-day clash against Carlisle United, who sit at the foot of League One.
It was a cagey affair yesterday and The Rams certainly had to dig deep in the second half to see it through, but ultimately Nathaniel Mendez-Laing‘s opener was enough to seal a recording-breaking 13th away victory of the season.
Derby fans had a lot to say about the winning goal, with heaps of praise on one ace for his involvement.

Louie Sibley laid on the assist for Mendez-Laing and his phenomenal pass sparked a reaction from Rams fans on X.
Another added: “Fantastic win, a game of two halves but we’re used to that. What a fantastic inch perfect ball from Sibley for the goal. Then we can just leave it up to our 3 man mountains at the back to get us home. 4 clean sheets in the last 5 games have got us nearly there.”
“Some ball from Louie Sibley, credit where credit is due,” a third stated.
A fourth posted: “What a counter attack that was. Louie Sibley, take a bow. Great ball.”
A fifth simply wrote: “WHAT A BALL FROM SIBLEY.”
The job is not done yet
Derby, admittedly, are near certain to secure automatic promotion next week, though, until it’s mathematically achieved, they must remain focused.
A point against Carlisle will be enough to wrap up a top-two finish, as third-placed Bolton can only get a maximum points tally of 89.
Warne was reluctant to delve into celebration at full-time yesterday, as he recognises there is still work to do, stranger things have happened in the Football League.
But notwithstanding that, yesterday felt like a colossal win for The Rams and one they’ll look back on as perhaps the most decisive.
They’re back in action at Saturday lunchtime at Pride Park in what is expected to be a party atmosphere.
