Report: European club have theory about English manager's next job amid claims Ineos want him at Man Utd

Erik ten Hag faces an absolutely enormous day as the uncertainty over his long-term future at Manchester United continues.

It’s FA Cup semi-final day and the pressure is on Ten Hag to find a result at Wembley Stadium.

United fans will not accept losing a semi-final to Championship side Coventry City and such a result would leave the Dutchman clinging on.

Manchester City have booked their place in the FA Cup final and United simply have to join them today.

That would be a repeat of last year’s final, which United lost 2-1 yet went into the summer with some considerable optimism.

Ten Hag hasn’t been able to build on that this season and United have gone backwards, turning in poor performances for much of the season.

Ineos will be watching closely and rumours continue to swirl over Ten Hag’s future ahead of today’s big game at Wembley.

Erik Ten Hag could leave Manchester United

The Mirror report that Ten Hag could actually quit United if he doesn’t receive assurances from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.

Much of the conversation has been around whether Ineos will want to keep hold of Ten Hag.

Few had really considered the possibility of Ten Hag walking away and we would still consider it pretty unlikely, even after this report.

It is though suggested that Ten Hag could have been offered a route back to former club Ajax this summer.

Alex Kroes was recently appointed as Ajax’s CEO and is understood to be close to Ten Hag’s agent Kees Vos.

That could have paved the way for Ten Hag’s return, but Kroes was swiftly axed after being accused of insider trading.

The chaos at Ajax continues and whilst Kroes was keen to bring Ten Hag back, it’s unclear whether he will be reinstated any time soon.

Ajax have Graham Potter theory

Another interesting note in this report surrounds Graham Potter.

Ajax had been eyeing the former Chelsea boss but believe he is already being lined up for a big job elsewhere.

That is a fascinating theory as Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford are both big fans of Potter and we have seen speculation surrounding a move to United in recent months.

Potter has been out of work since leaving Chelsea last year and was targeted by Ratcliffe and Ineos for the OGC Nice job last summer.

The admiration for Potter certainly seems to be true but whether Ineos are really lining him up to replace Ten Hag remains to be seen with Ajax seemingly suspecting a move is in the pipeline.
