‘Could be’: Mido told Tottenham to sign £11m star in 2013, he’s now scored 156 goals in the Premier League

Comments made by former Tottenham Hotspur player Mido telling the club to buy a player in 2013 are now coming back to light.

Although he still has six vital games to navigate this season, Ange Postecoglou must have one eye on this summer’s transfer window.

Postecoglou doesn’t want to sign players who will only play for the club on the basis of being in the Champions League, which could be fortuitous given their league position.

Tottenham are now pretty much neck-and-neck with Aston Villa in the hunt for fourth spot, which is now much more incentivised after results in Europe this week.

It no longer seems as if fifth position will be a Champions League spot, with English clubs failing to strengthen the league’s coefficient sufficiently.

But either way, Tottenham will hope to attract some excellent talent to the club given the strong financial position they are thought to be in.

Ange Postecoglou has started immensely well, but needs better players to progress further.

And with that in mind, former Tottenham player Mido did once provide the club with some transfer advice that could have changed recent history.

Mido told Tottenham to replace Gareth Bale with Mohamed Salah back in 2013

When speculation had begun regarding Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid back in 2013, Mido took to X to share his thoughts.

Mido wanted Tottenham to sign Mohamed Salah to replace the Welshman, a decision which could have changed everything.

Of course, Salah was playing for FC Basel at the time, eventually signing for Chelsea for £11m in 2014.

Mido wrote: “Mohamed Salah is a young Egyptian talent who could be the right replacement for Bale if he leaves!”

It’s a bit too convenient to say that Salah would have been the same superstar he is today had he joined Spurs, after all he did struggle at Chelsea.

But perhaps Tottenham do now wish that they had followed Mido’s advice, or at least explored the opportunity.

Mido has now recommended another name for Spurs

That being said, Mido has also just recommended that Spurs should be considering Omar Marmoush, a 25-year-old currently playing for Eintracht Frankfurt.

And perhaps given what the former Tottenham striker has said before, that should be a move that is checked.

Marmoush is having an excellent season and has now scored 16 goals in 37 games for Frankfurt in his debut campaign for the club.

All that being said, one player Ange Postecoglou is said to be interested in has just admitted that he loves Spurs.
