Real Madrid captain decides on next destination ahead of summer exit - report

Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernandez wants to move to MLS when his contract expires this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Fernandez's deal at the Santiago Bernabeu is up at the end of the season, and it was widely reported earlier this week he has decided to leave the club.

MARCA write that Nacho's preferred destination is MLS, with a move to the United States seen as one to provide a new experience to his life on and off the pitch as well as with his family.

There are other suitors for Nacho, with the Saudi Pro League open to offering him a contract to join one of their clubs, but his next move is said not to be motivated by money.

Nacho has also ruled out continuing his career in La Liga, while he would also be reluctant to join one of Europe's major sides - Inter were interested in signing him last summer and are monitoring his current situation.

The 34-year-old is also eyeing a return to the Spain national team for their Euro 2024 campaign. He has not received a call-up since last summer's Nations League finals, though is said to still be admired by head coach Luis de la Fuente.

When asked about Nacho's potential exit earlier this week, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said: "We have to respect the decisions of our players. They're free to decide whatever they want."

Nacho has played 36 games for Madrid so far this season heading into Sunday's El Clasico at home to Barcelona. Los Blancos can go 11 points clear at the top of La Liga with victory and take a huge step further to wrestling back the Spanish title from their bitter foes from Catalonia.

Before upping sticks and leaving, Nacho could also captain Madrid to their 15th Champions League crown after eliminating holders Manchester City in the quarter-finals. They will take on Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, with Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund awaiting the winners at Wembley.
