'Sensational': Journalist wowed by 'brilliant' Sheffield Wednesday star against Blackburn Rovers

Dom Howson was wowed by one Sheffield Wednesday player in the 3-1 win vs Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday went into a crunch match at Ewood Park on Saturday, needing a win to bring themselves out of the drop zone.

Birmingham City took a point against Rotherham United on Saturday meaning that the Owls needed a win at Blackburn.

And Danny Rohl‘s side made a strong start and took the lead through Josh Windass in the 6th minute.

The Championship‘s top scorer Sammie Szmodics would equalise for Rovers minutes later though, with the score 1-1 at half-time.

The second half then saw the visiting Wednesday score twice; first through Marvin Johnson and then being gifted the third by Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.

Windass has only scored four goals in the Championship this season, with one of them coming on |Sunday afternoon.

Blackburn stopper Pears came out to head away a loose ball but Rovers then lost possession.

The ball fell to Windass, who from range chipped the ball over Pears and into the back of the net.

It was a fine strike which garnered a lot of attention on social media, with journalist Howson one who commented on it:

Josh Windass Sheffield Wednesday future

Windass is now 30 years old and in the final few months of his Sheffield Wednesday contract.

Previous reports revealed that Rohl wants to keep Windass ahead of next season, though contract talks at Sheffield Wednesday are on hold until the end of this season.

Former Accrington Stanley, Rangers, and Wigan Athletic striker Windass has made 133 total appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 38 goals and providing 17 assists along the way.

His most memorable goal was the play-off final winner against Barnsley at Wembley last summer.

The decision should be clear for Danny Rohl

Whether Wednesday are in League One or the Championship next season, Windass is a player that really needs to be kept around.

Although he’s somewhat injury prone, a player with his experience and quality is vital, especially so for a Sheffield Wednesday side already set to lose almost 20 players in the summer.

Windass hasn’t had his finest season in blue and white but he showed his class at Ewood Park with an all-important goal.

And if Rohl can have a proper pre-season to work with Windass and bring in some players who can match and compliment his quality, we could see Windass rediscovering his scoring form.

Sheffield Wednesday are back in action against West Brom at Hillsborough next weekend.
