Telegraph journo takes aim at Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce after Palace batter West Ham 5-2

Well that wasn’t very good at all was it? Crystal Palace had their way with West Ham at Selhurst Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

Crystal Palace absolutely took West Ham to the cleaners today – a result that leaves our hopes of a top seven finish in the Premier League table dead and buried.

If Hammers boss David Moyes wasn’t under pressure before the game against the Eagles today, he certainly is now.

The West Ham board are believed to have already offered a contract to Maurizio Sarri, and Moyes’s future at the London Stadium really does look bleak now.

The painful drop off in form since the turn of the year has led to Moyes’s uncertain future, and I have no doubts that he’ll be on his way out of the club soon.

Hopefully after today’s result, pundits and fans of other clubs will stop wheeling out the tired old ‘be careful what you wish for’ cliche…

Telegraph journalist’s brilliant X post after Palace batter West Ham

The Hammers players were absolutely awful against Palace today, make no mistake about that.

However, Moyes has caused this situation that we’re currently in. It was he who weakened our squad in January rather than strengthen it.

And it is the Scot who continually sets up in a defensive manner, when in fact we’re actually terrible defensively.

So why on earth do pundits who barely watch us think they have the right to criticise us when we demand more from the Hammers boss?

Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce have both criticised the West Ham fans for demanding more over the past week or so.

First up, Shearer told the West Ham fans to ‘be careful what you wish for’, before Pearce echoed the same sentiment with Sam Allardyce.

And now, Telegraph journalist Dan Silver has fired back at both pundits, asking the question, ‘am I allowed to wish for a West Ham team that can defend?’:

Top class stuff that was from Mr Silver.

The narrative that the Hammers fans are ungrateful is an utter load of tosh.

Before our Europa Conference League triumph last year, we hadn’t won a major trophy since 1980, yet the fans followed the team in their droves home and away.

We sold out our stadium week in, week out. There are two things that we do expect – 100% commitment from our players and the ambition from the manager to at least try and win every game we play.

We proved that by roundly applauding the players after our 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

After West Ham were battered by Crystal Palace today, surely the neutrals will be able to see what we’ve been banging on about for months now.

I would love to hear what Shearer and Pearce thought of the performance from the Hammers at Selhurst Park!
