Ian Wright now hails three ‘important’ Arsenal stars who shone in 2-0 Wolves win

Ian Wright has now named three Arsenal players who caught his eye during the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Wolves on Saturday evening.

Arsenal retook top spot in the Premier League table with their win against Wolves last time out.

As they are only a point behind the Gunners and hold a game in hand, Manchester City remain in charge of the title race. However, the North London club have now heaped the pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s men with this win.

It was not a vintage display from Mikel Arteta’s side at Molineux Stadium. Wolves made the visitors work extremely hard to claim all three points. The Gunners finally made the breakthrough just before half-time, as Leandro Trossard arced the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Arsenal successfully kept the hosts at arm’s length throughout the second half, before sealing the points at the death when Martin Odegaard squeezed the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle.

Arsenal have shared the goals around their squad more successfully than any other Premier League side this season. Trossard and Odegaard have both made vital contributions on several occasions this season.

Ian Wright names impressive Arsenal trio after Wolves win

After the final whistle, iconic former Arsenal striker Ian Wright took to X to share his thoughts on the performance and name three players who particularly impressed him. He said, “Job done! Analysis can come tomorrow ! Important three points, result all that mattered. Declan, Raya, Ø [Odegaard],” followed by three flexing bicep emojis.

Declan Rice produced a man of the match performance having previously promised Arsenal fans a response in this match, as the Gunners had lost their last two games heading into this fixture.

Meanwhile, David Raya impressed Arsenal fans with his assured showing between the sticks. Odegaard, for his part, tied the Gunners’ attacking play together in the final third and will have been delighted to get on the scoresheet.

What Mikel Arteta will now be asking of his Arsenal squad

Arsenal still have a huge task ahead of them if they are to be crowned champions this season. They must win all of their remaining games, and hope that Manchester City drop points. Their confidence will have been boosted by this victory, though, and they have to believe that they what it takes to pull off something special.

The Gunners have been in this position before of course, and the painful memories and valuable experience that they garnered last season can now come to their aid. The manager will be preaching calm to his squad. Theo Walcott believes that Arteta is now a more relaxed presence on the sidelines than he used to be, which he will be hoping transmits to his players.
