Pundit Andrew Wiebe has claimed Inter Miami will hope one of the star players will return to action soon after what happened against Nashville SC.

The Herons were on the winning side once again in Florida with Lionel Messi doing what he does best having scored a brace and assisting Sergio Busquets to inspire Inter Miami to a big 3-1 win against MLS rivals Nashville at Chase Stadium.

Taking the Florida franchise two points clear at the top of the standings, Inter Miami’s form has turned a corner since the return of Messi, who is now fully fit and is starting to show why he could be the greatest MLS player of all time.

However, last night wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Inter Miami.

Inter Miami face injury scare as Diego Gomez is stretchered off vs Nashville

Star midfielder Diego Gomez suffered a potentially major injury after being stamped on by a Nashville player on the ankle, with Busquets speaking post-match about how much of a miss the 21-year-old could be.

And speaking on MLS Wrap-Up pundit Wiebe has echoed Busquets’ comments on Gomez, who this season has been one of Inter Miami’s best players and a talent who had shown some really promising signs of progression alongside the likes of Messi.

Indeed, Gomez this week won praise from both Kieran Gibbs and fellow MLS pundit Matt Doyle, and Inter Miami will be praying that the midfielder’s ankle injury is not as bad as first feared.

Wiebe said: “You hope for Inter Miami’s sake it’s nothing serious. That injury list is already so long, Tata compared this guy to Almiron, he’s that influential.”

Inter Miami will be hopeful ‘infleuntial’ midfielder returns from injury soon

Gomez’s form this season has been one of the biggest positives for Inter Miami this year, with the midfielder establishing himself as one of the most exciting prospects in MLS and a real superstar in the making.

Which is why the Herons will be praying that the 21-year-old Paraguay international is not ruled out for an extended period of time, a prospect that could well be on the cards for Gomez.

Indeed, the midfielder has shown this season he is a real asset for Inter Miami, and the Herons could struggle without Gomez if the youngster is forced out on the sideline through injury.
