Jamie Carragher says 25-year-old Liverpool defender played just like Steven Gerrard vs Fulham

Jamie Carragher likened Liverpool’s 25-year-old defender to Steven Gerrard in the game against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool got back to winning ways against Fulham on Sunday afternoon with a relatively comfortable 3-1 victory.

It wasn’t a perfect performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side, but it was much improved and there’s definitely a lot to build on for the Reds.

With Liverpool currently sitting level on points at the top of the Premier League table, it’s all still to play for in the Reds’ last five games of the season.

Lifting the Premier League title may be unlikely. But it’s not impossible. Especially if Liverpool continue to play like they did against Fulham and collect all 15 points from their remaining matches.

Jamie Carragher explains why Trent Alexander-Arnol is like Steven Gerrard

Liverpool’s best player on Sunday was probably Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 25-year-old defender put in a really good performance and scored a stunning free-kick goal.

He controlled the game a lot of the times and while he was far from back to his best, this was another reminder of the world-class talent he has.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher was very impressed by Alexander-Arnold and described how he had played similarly to Steven Gerrard in a ‘free role’ for Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

“Yeah, he was (Player of the match),” Carragher said.

“The goal plays a big part in that, of course, great goal, but just watching him play, come back into the team after a long time, and we shouldn’t forget the lad who had come in for him. Conor Bradley was absolutely fantastic, out of this world, but he is unique.

“We have said this before, I think I have described him in the past as almost having Kevin De Bruyne playing at right-back.

“And now, I am looking at him and thinking, he has got a free role. It feels like he is that good a player, it’s like you go and find where you get on the ball now. When you think of players in the past, that role would always be there for, Steven Gerrard for us, he is that good a player on the ball, find the space, but that would always be an attacking player.”
