Roy Keane blasts two Manchester United players, and explains what he saw from fans at full-time

Manchester United legend Roy Keane is a hard man to please, and you will not be surprised with his reaction to the team’s FA Cup semi-final win.

Even the most optimistic Manchester United supporter would have had very muted celebrations at full-time as the team sneaked past Coventry City.

If you had to script the most embarrassing way to win a FA Cup semi-final, the match against Coventry was it.

Playing against Championship opposition, Manchester United let a 3-0 lead slip, then conceded a ‘winner’, clinging on after a VAR review, before winning on penalties.

Roy Keane explains what he saw from Man Utd fans

Club legend Roy Keane was on pundit duty for ITV at Wembley and he observed the muted reaction from Manchester United players at the end of the shootout.

He also reflected on how the fan reaction followed suit, with the Red Devils fans acknowledging the team were fortunate to win the game.

Keane told the channel: “The Manchester United players and supporters weren’t going over the top because they were lucky to win. They were almost embarrassed in the end.

“I don’t like what I see when I watch this United group. I don’t see leaders.

“They give up chances, they give up goals, we’ve seen it all season and they rode their luck today.”

Roy Keane on Harry Maguire and Andre Onana

Harry Maguire was one of Manchester United’s best players in the game, scoring one of the team’s three goals.

He praised the character of the team to see the game through, commenting post-game: “It seems like the world wanted Coventry to go on and do it. We showed great character to stick with it and it was important to win the shootout.”

These comments engaged Keane, who blasted: “Maguire said he saw character but I don’t see character. I’m almost getting to the point where I don’t like them.”

Keane also hit out atAndre Onana, who he said was timewasting, and he was not at all impressed.

He said: “I’m seeing bad habits. The goalkeeper is wasting time at 2-0 up, get on with the game and go and flex your muscles.”

Onana did step up when Manchester United needed him most, making a crucial save in the penalty shootout.

Keane had a warning for Erik ten Hag, insisting that manner of the performance has intensified the spolight on the manager.

He said: “They’ll be celebrating getting to a cup final tonight but all this does is put more pressure on the manager.”
