Moyes responds with 9 words when reporter asks him if he could be sacked as West Ham boss

West Ham manager David Moyes is under more pressure than he ever has been before at the London Stadium.

And it must be said – rightly so. David Moyes has overseen a disastrous run of form at West Ham since the turn of the year.

The Hammers have won just four of our last 21 games in all competitions over the past three-and-a-half months.

Yesterday’s 5-2 hammering by Crystal Palace was surely the final straw – especially with Moyes bemoaning player fatigue after suggesting that he likes a small squad.

You couldn’t make it up! It looks like Moyes will leave the London Stadium before the start of next season now – despite his recent claim that he has a contract there waiting to sign:

“I’ve had really good conversations with the owners, with David Sullivan and Karren Brady. There’s a contract there for me and I’m the one deciding I want to wait until the end of the season.”

The club are now said to be lining up a move to appoint Italian Maurizio Sarri as the Scot’s successor this summer.

So is Moyes comfortable with the idea of being moved on from West Ham?

The Scot is facing fierce criticism from the Hammers right now for two main reasons.

Firstly, the football that he has deployed this season just hasn’t been good enough, especially considering the sheer number of technically gifted players he has at his disposal.

Secondly, the way that he has managed his squad has quite simply been unacceptable. It was only on Friday when he was telling everyone that he’d actually prefer an even smaller squad:

“I don’t think we are a club that is going to carry loads and loads of really top players, so we can change one of our really good players for another at absolutely the same level. If I am being honest, if I had my way I would have smaller squads anyway. I would rather have a smaller squad. I always have done. You can get more problems with a bigger squad. Having a smaller squad isn’t bad but when you are playing, I think it will be 57 games this season, and maybe 60 last. We have had to take a big hit.”

The Scot only trusts 13 or 14 players and as a result, he runs them into the ground and ostracises all the other fringe players in the process.

His time is surely done in East London. His arrogance has got the better of him once again, and he is clearly too stubborn to change.

But what would he think if his future at West Ham was taken away from him by thew owners?

Moyes responded to reporters with nine simple words yesterday, when asked that exact question, as quoted by Roshane Thomas:

“If it is, then it is, fine – no problem.”

Well, yes, of course it will be fine, and yes, there will be no problem. The man absolutely baffles me at times with his arrogance. It’s as if he’s calling the shots and he’s beyond reproach.

His ego is off the charts, and he has allowed that to get the better of him.

David Moyes will not be West Ham manager at the start of next season, I have no doubts about that. The only question that remains is who will replace him? I just hope that the Hammers board make an ambitious appointment rather than play it safe.
