'Hold my hands up': Dom Howson explains what he got 'so wrong' about Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri

Dom Howson has admitted he was ‘so, so wrong’ about one key decision Dejphon Chansiri made this season.

Sheffield Wednesday picked up a vital three points against Blackburn Rovers yesterday, with goals from Josh Windass and Marvin Johnson taking them out of the relegation zone for the first time since the opening day.

The Owls’ survival is now completely in their own hands, as they sit one point above the relegation zone with two games to go.

Their race to safety now looks set to go down to the wire though, and they are likely to need at least four points to guarantee their place in the Championship next season.

It has been a turbulent campaign with a very dramatic ending for Wednesday, but it is a great improvement on the way it started.

Danny Rohl found his new side nine points adrift after his first game against Watford, having suffered nine defeats in their opening 12 games.

Dejphon Chansiri had made an unbelievable mistake in appointing Xisco Munoz and it had looked unrepairable, but the arrival of Rohl has proven to be a huge success and he could be about to do what felt unthinkable at the start of the campaign.

Dom Howson did not ‘trust’ Dejphon Chansiri

Dom Howson has now admitted that he was ‘so, so wrong’ not to trust the Wednesday chairman to replace Munoz.

Writing on X, Howson said: “Going to hold my hands up. I didn’t trust Dejphon Chansiri to get the next managerial appointment right after the Xisco Munoz debacle. I was so, so wrong. Danny Röhl has done an outstanding job. Even if #SWFC fall short now, DR has revitalised the club. There’s hope again.”

What an appointment it turned out to be…

It’s hard to believe that the same man can believe Xisco Munoz and Danny Rohl are both right for the job at Sheffield Wednesday, but it’s a good job he got it right at the second attempt.

The Owls will be confident they can stay up now after their win over Blackburn, and they will be aiming for a vital three points on the final day against Sunderland, who have nothing to play for.

The Black Cats may be hoping Wednesday do go down though, as they remain interested in snapping up Danny Rohl for themselves.

Despite being in the relegation zone for most of the season, the German has attracted interest and that proves just how much he has managed to transform this club.

Whether they stay up or go down now, keeping hold of Rohl should be their main priority. After such success in only six months, who knows what miracles he could perform at Hillsborough over the next couple of years.
