Pundit says £27m Arsenal star looked 'so comfortable' vs Wolves despite one 'mistake'

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks was full of praise for one Arsenal player despite making a ‘mistake’ against Wolves this weekend.

The Gunners returned to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory away at Molineux thanks to goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard, with Arsenal back to winning ways ahead of a massive week in the Premier League.

With another clean sheet recorded, it was a relatively easy performance for Arsenal as David Raya was forced into only one real moment of quality, a save that won praise from Mikel Arteta at the end of the match.

William Saliba lauded after ‘comfortable’ Arsenal display vs Wolves

Writing on BBC Sport, the pundit was full of praise for William Saliba, even with the Arsenal defender making a mistake in the opening half that Match of the Day’s Danny Murphy noted in his post-match analysis.

Indeed, despite the shakey moment from Saliba, it was an overall good performance from the defender, who extended Arsenal’s impressive clean sheet run away on the road as Wolves failed to do much on Saturday.

Crooks said: “William Saliba has not only played every minute of every Premier League game so far, he looked like he could go through another entire season again without taking a break, his performance was so comfortable against Wolves.

“He made one poor clearance throughout the entire match and was so determined to make up for the mistake. By the time Hugo Bueno realised he had a free shot at goal Saliba was on to him in a flash – forcing the Spaniard to shoot wide.”

Mikel Arteta would be wise to rest William Saliba midweek

Whilst Crooks might think Saliba can go a whole other season without a break, those who watch Arsenal on a regular basis know that the 23-year-old defender could do with some rest, with tomorrow’s game against Chelsea the perfect opportunity.

Arsenal are heavy favourites to beat the west London side, and with Jakub Kiwior and Ben White capable of playing in central defence, tomorrow’s clash against Chelsea could be used as a chance to rest the likes of Saliba.

With Tottenham coming up on the weekend, having Saliba fully fresh for that fixture will be massive for Arsenal, with that game, in particular, one that could make or break the Gunners’ Premier League title bid.
