Report: Inter Miami set to announce new signing today, he once called Lionel Messi 'the best'

Inter Miami are reportedly set to announce a new signing today, with the player in question once calling Lionel Messi ‘the best’.

The Herons have been one of the most active MLS sides in terms of transfers in 2024, with Inter Miami signing Luis Suarez and Julian Gressel in the January market before adding Marcelo Weigandt to their roster on loan last month.

Given how restrictive MLS teams are in terms of squad building due to spending rules, Inter Miami have had to be smart in how they go about their business, with the Florida franchise making the best out of a situation that is less than ideal.

And another new signing is set to be made official today.

Matias Rojas to be unveiled later today by Inter Miami

According to El Nacional, Inter Miami will this Monday announce the signing of Matias Rojas, who has been linked with Tata Martino’s side for quite some time after being released by Brazilian giants Corinthians.

A Paraguay international who once labeled Messi as ‘the best’ to ever play the game, the addition of Rojas will add depth for Inter Miami in both the central midfield position as well as the wings, something the Herons have desperately needed.

Moreover, with fellow Paraguayan Diego Gomez picking up an ankle injury on Saturday against Nashville SC, Rojas’ arrival could not have come at a more ideal time for Inter Miami, who need bodies in the midfield.

Indeed, Rojas will offer plenty to Inter Miami’s ranks, and with the 28-year-old already a fan of Messi’s, there’s every chance that the Argentine superstar could now have a new teammate to run plays off in upcoming games.

Matias Rojas will want to hit the ground running alongside Lionel Messi

Signing for Inter Miami will now come with a lot of pressure for any player given the size of the club as well as the prospect of becoming teammates with Messi, the greatest to ever play the game.

And for someone like Rojas who has already stated their love for the 36-year-old in the past, there will be an excitement over finally getting to play alongside Messi as teammates, with the Paraguayan eager to hit the ground running.

Rojas comes to Inter Miami with a big reputation from South American, and the midfielder knows very well that there will be standards he needs to meet if he is to succeed in Florida in MLS alongside his idol.
