'I can't understand': Joe Cole left baffled after what he's been hearing from some West Ham fans recently

West Ham United’s heavy 5-2 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday was a woeful result. A defeat that was a surprise, and saw Palace boss Oliver Glasner clock up two successive wins – after beating Liverpool.

Glasner had only won once before the last two games. But his Palace side were made to look very good by a West Ham side that looked as though all of their energy had been zapped out of them in the week.

Of course, David Moyes watched on as his side put up a real fight against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen – but could only draw 1-1 at The London Stadium. A 3-1 defeat on aggregate last week.

The clash against Palace handed West Ham the opportunity to climb into sixth place, with Chelsea and Manchester United both in action in the FA Cup semi-finals. Sixth likely to mean Europa League football.

West Ham miss chance to stake claim for sixth European spot

But, they failed to take advantage of that chance and the pressure is firmly now on manager Moyes. Sections of fans have grown tired of Moyes’ negative style of football – despite the success it has brought.

Three successive seasons in Europe, reaching at least the quarter-finals at each stage – and of course, winning The Conference League. They will need to finish in at least seventh to get Europe this term.

Reports claim that Moyes is more than likely to leave with a contract offer on the table – but Moyes, yet to sign it. Thomas Tuchel is one name being linked. West Ham have made an offer to hire Maurizio Sarri.

What Joe Cole said about West Ham keeping David Moyes…

Speaking to TalkSPORT on Monday morning (22/04, 11.15AM), Joe Cole said that he expects Moyes will leave West Ham this summer – despite his wonderful stint in charge, questioning fans who doubt Moyes.

“What he’s done is unbelievable. I’ve been banging the drum for him. The last three years, what they’ve done – it’s the best squad of players they’ve had. They lost to a very good Leverkusen team by the way.

“I’d stick with him, but it is probably a parting that will happen. I think David has a big job next for him, I can’t understand the fans wanting him to go,” West Ham icon Cole said, discussing the future of Moyes.
