Report: 50-year-old boss open to Manchester United talks; he has support from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's camp

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s camp are admirers of one manager who would be interested in talks over the Manchester United job this summer if Erik ten Hag was replaced as manager.

Questions over the future of Erik ten Hag persist. The Dutchman has led Manchester United to the FA Cup final.

However, the manner of their victory over Coventry City at Wembley has hardly silenced his doubters.

According to a report from ESPN, the Manchester United hierarchy are yet to make a decision on ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.

However, one manager would be keen on the post should United decide to move on from ten Hag.

Thomas Tuchel is approaching his final few games as Bayern Munich boss. Despite a miserable campaign in the Bundesliga, the Bavarian giants could still end the year as champions of Europe.

The spell at Bayern is yet to do Tuchel’s stock many favours. But ESPN claims that he does have support from people in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s camp. And representatives are looking to be kept informed on the 50-year-old’s situation.

The report adds that Tuchel is open to holding talks with Manchester United if ten Hag does leave.

Thomas Tuchel will have plenty of supporters amongst frustrated fanbase

Tuchel would arguably be a smart choice if United did replace ten Hag at the end of the season.

Ultimately, United have attempted to move forward with a number of managers since Sir Alex Ferguson. And the amount of success has been limited.

So it is going to be fascinating to see what direction they do go in when ten Hag does leave the club. It will be the first managerial appointment with Ratcliffe’s fingerprints on it.

But turning to Tuchel may not excite the fanbase. It is coming up to a decade since the German was at a club where he had managed more than 130 games. So he may not be the long-term answer.

But he is someone who has won a range of honours in his career. And this season may well end with him lifting the Champions League.

So it would arguably make a lot of sense if United did look at Tuchel should ten Hag’s tenure end this summer.
