Ex-Arsenal star impressed with 'really smooth' 26-year-old's display vs Wolves

Former Arsenal star Adrian Clarke was full of praise for one 26-year-old player’s performance on Saturday against Wolves.

The Gunners claimed a big three points in the Premier League with a professional win against Wolves, with Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard scoring two fantastic goals to secure a huge win for the north London side.

With the Gunners now back at the top of the Premier League, Mikel Arteta will be excepting perfect performances from his key players between now and the end of the season, where Arsenal will realistically have to be perfect if they’re to win the title.

And one player really caught the eye of Clarke on Saturday.

Ben White praised after ‘really good’ Arsenal display vs Wolves

Speaking on the Handbrake Off podcast, Clarke lauded Ben White after another strong display at right-back, with the England international connecting with Bukayo Saka down the wing as the 26-year-old kept Wolves’ wingers quiet.

Indeed, White has been on another level this season after fully adapting to the right-back position, and Saturday’s performance against Wolves again showed how right Arteta was to transition the defender into a fullback last season.

Clarke said on White’s performance: “An honourable mention to Ben White, he was really good again, a really smooth performance, he completely 73 of 77 passes, he gives it early and at the right time.

“He gave the ball to Saka 25 times in the game, I wish I played with fullbacks like that every week! That’s fantastic service. I thought he was really good.”

Mikel Arteta will want consistency from key players heading into the run-in

Consistency between now and the end of the season will be what separates Arsenal from another late-collapse or the Premier League title, and Arteta will want more from his key players in the five remaining games.

White’s performance showed a player who is maintaining his quality throughout the year with some big performances in the final matches of the year, and the likes of Saka and Odegaard will be looking at the England international as an inspiration.

Indeed, White’s display against Wolves was fantastic for Arsenal fans to watch, and supporters will be eager to see more in the coming games against the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.
