'If you look': Dermot Gallagher noticed what the referee did after Nottingham Forest's third penalty appeal

Dermot Gallagher has delivered his verdict on the third Nottingham Forest penalty appeal which involved Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Reds felt extremely frustrated after the 2-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League – with Forest releasing a strongly worded statement afterwards.

Forest came under fire for their vent towards the match officials, with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards particularly critical.

The club are frankly sick and tired of this sort of thing happening. Once or twice over the course of a season, fine, but with Forest it happens every single week.

Now, Dermot Gallagher, a former Premier League referee has delivered his verdict on the third of three potential penalty appeals that Forest had yesterday.

Dermot Gallagher delivers verdict on Forest incident

Well, this one must have been a bad one because even Gallagher – renowned for finding rhyme and reason for referees making bad mistakes – thinks Forest were unlucky.

In our view, the other two were extremely strong cases as well. Giovanni Reyna could have been given a penalty after a foul by Ashley Young, whilst the handball that he got away with was just scandalous.

Still, Gallagher has given Forest the benefit of the doubt with this one decision and thinks they can feel extremely aggrieved.

He told Ref Watch on Sky Sports News: “I think this is a penalty for a couple of reasons. First, the forward has got the right side of the forward. Secondly, if you look at the ref, he signals that the defender plays the ball and he doesn’t.

“I wonder whether he should have been sent over to the screen. We’d be happier if he went to the screen and judged that because he thinks he’s played the ball and he hasn’t.”

Forest must use frustration to kick on

It’s all good and well asking for some transparency from the powers that be in this instance but nothing will come of this now.

Forest can’t do anything to get their points back from the game against Everton and they now have four games to save themselves.

The four games are tough, starting with Manchester City at home this weekend, but the team has to find a siege mentality.

Gallagher giving Forest some credit feels like a bit of a token gesture, he was having none of the first two appeals but did think the third was a penalty.

Forest must let this go to a certain degree now and the next game simply can’t come around soon enough for the team.
