'Hold on': Darren Bent shares what's almost shocked him given what many are now saying about Liverpool star

Darren Bent has named the Liverpool front three he would pick for the Merseyside derby with Everton on Wednesday, and shared what has almost shocked him about Mohamed Salah this season.

Liverpool got back to winning ways on Sunday, beating Fulham at Craven Cottage. It was a vital result after Arsenal won the previous day.

But of course, Liverpool surely have to continue to be flawless to stand a chance of winning the Premier League title. And next up for the Reds is the Merseyside derby.

Going to Goodison Park is certainly not going to be easy for Jurgen Klopp’s men. But Liverpool have no excuse to not get up for the contest.

One of the dilemmas Klopp faces concerns the front three he picks against Everton. Both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez were left on the bench at the start of the Fulham game.

It would be a big call to leave both men out against Sean Dyche’s side. But Liverpool certainly have the depth to go with a variety of options.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Darren Bent named the trio that he would opt for. And he shared what people are overlooking about Salah right now.

“I’d play Nunez, Jota and Salah. [Jota] down the middle. When you play centre forward, you need to be able to rely on that person to score the goals. And I think Jota, as you said there, composure in front of goal, can calm himself and finish with either foot,” he said.

“And I think Salah’s just a given. I know his form’s not been great. But if you look at the numbers, I look at them sometimes and I have to double take. Hold on, people said he’s having a poor season. He’s got over 15 Premier League goals again.”

There is no question that Salah has not been as influential since signing off for the Africa Cup of Nations with two goals against Newcastle.

He has scored just two goals in his last six appearances. And they have both come from the penalty spot.

But it would be a huge gamble to rest him for too long. As Bent suggests, the 31-year-old has still scored 17 goals in the top-flight this season. He has also provided nine assists.

It is a big boost for Liverpool that they have the depth to make changes and rotate those who are struggling.

But Klopp must surely be tempted to give Salah the stage to drag Liverpool across the line.
