Prince Phillip’s funeral ‘overturned royal protocol’

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Britain being in lockdown at the time, many aspects of Prince Phillip’s death and funeral were largely different to previous royal deaths.

When a member of the family passes away, or is born, it is tradition for notices to be posted on the gates of Buckingham Palace for 24 hours. However, the Duke of Edignburugh’s was taken down after one hour, to prevent crowds gathering amid social distancing restrictions.

Mourners were also asked to refrain from laying flowers at the gates due to these restrictions. However, around 100 were placed and police reminded visitors to stay apart from each other. Usually, grounds are full, as those will remember during Queen Elizabeth’s death, as well as Princess Diana‘s.

His funeral was also attended by much fewer guests than normal, with the total number equating to around 30. These included his wife, Her Majesty, his four children, King Charles, and his eight grandchildren, including Prince Harry and Prince William. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were also in attendance.

When inside, those who were not from the same household sat apart, and all attendees were wearing face masks inside.

King Charles and Queen Camilla recently celebrated the late Queens birthday

Just weeks after Prince Phillip’s death anniversary is the birthday of the late monarch. This weekend would have been her 98th birthday, and King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla took a trip to Balmoral Castle.

The couple attended a special church service on the grounds of Crathie Kirk. Despite his recent cancer diagnosis, the monarch look in good spirits as he could be seen smiling behind the wheel.

Elsewhere, the Queen’s former daughter-in-law Sarah Ferguson took to Instagram to honor the late monarch on what would have been her 98th birthday.

“Today we are remembering Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on what would have been her 97th birthday,” she penned. However, many corrected the mistake of her age in the comments. “Thank you for all that you have taught us, for being a steadfast leader and dear friend. You are sorely missed,” she emotionally concluded.
