BBC journalist shares what Liam Cooper did when Crysencio Summerville scored Leeds' fourth goal last night

Leeds United got back to winning ways with a dramatic 4-3 win away at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

It was an incredible game at the Riverside which swung one way and the other, with Leeds forced to withstand a barrage of pressure in stoppage time to see out the win.

Boro had taken the lead early on through Isaiah Jones’ goal before quickfire strikes from Crysencio Summerville and Patrick Bamford put Leeds in front.

In-form striker Emmanuel Latte Lath then got the home side back on level terms before goals either side of half-time from Willy Gnonto and Summerville put Leeds firmly in control.

Out of no where, Latte Lath then gave Boro life with just three minutes to play but Leeds managed to hold on and seal a massive three points to move back into second place.

BBC journalist shares what Cooper did for Summerville goal

Club captain Liam Cooper once again found himself on the bench for Leeds, and time is now ticking on his 10-year spell at Elland Road.

Cooper has admitted he would like to stay but is not said to be expecting another new contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

With just two league starts in 2024, the 32-year-old has certainly been more of a bit-part player for Leeds this season, but it does not mean this promotion push means any less to him.

And according to BBC journalist Jonathan Buchan that was telling in his celebration for Summerville’s second goal of the afternoon, as he shared what Cooper did on the bench when it hit the back of the net.

He said: “Liam Cooper off of the bench, right out onto the edge of the pitch celebrating that goal as well, shows what it means to him even if he is not out on the field.”

Promotion would be perfect Leeds send off for Cooper

This summer feels like the start of a new era at Leeds regardless of whether they get promoted or not, given some of the names that are leaving.

Stuart Dallas has already confirmed his retirement, while Luke Ayling’s loan to Middlesbrough all but signalled the end of his Leeds career.

Cooper is the only one still really involved but for all of them, Leeds being promoted with supporters in the stadium really would be the perfect send-off.
