Sheffield United manager speaks out on 'outstanding' Manchester United star ahead of clash

Manchester United are back in action in midweek against Sheffield United in the Premier League.

The FA Cup semi-final should have been joyous for Manchester United. Instead the victory was too embarrassing to celebrate.

Having a match so soon afterwards is a good thing, with Manchester United hosting strugglers Sheffield United.

Harry Maguire praised

One of the best players on the pitch at Wembley was centre-back Harry Maguire, who will be needed once again this week.

Maguire began his career with Sheffield United and is highly regarded by everybody at the club.

Blades boss Chris Wilder held his pre-match press conference on Monday, and was asked for his view on the Manchester United defender.

Wilder said: “Outstanding, we’ve all seen his progression we are delighted for him. To play for your country, he hasn’t had it easy.

“When you move to a club like Man United there’s a lot of games, a lot of advantages playing for a world class football club, an iconic football club, but there’s also a lot of pressure put on you, by everybody, media, supporters, worldwide right the way through.

“He’s endured some tough times, as well all do, as we are doing right now, at an international level and from a club point of view, but the way he handles himself is first class, you know, humble guy, worked extremely hard to get into the position and deservedly so, and let’s not forget, he’s an absolute shoe-in for England.”

Harry Maguire is Manchester United’s only fit senior centre-back

Harry Maguire is Manchester United’s only fit centre-back, although the cavalry could be back to take the pressure off him shortly.

Lisandro Martinez sent out a message last night saying he will be back ‘soon’, eyeing a return before the FA Cup final.

Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Willy Kambwala are all also expected back before the end of the season.

For now, just having one of them back would be a very positive step.
