‘Ridiculous’: Micah Richards says striker Man Utd sold for £10m was a better finisher than Alan Shearer

Manchester United have had some unreal strikers over the years.

Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, the list is almost endless.

United have had so many good strikers, but perhaps the best finisher of the bunch was Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman may not have worked as hard as Wayne Rooney and he may not have been as powerful as Robin van Persie, but he always knew where the back of the net was.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has been discussing Van Nistelrooy’s time at Manchester United, and he’s claimed that he may well be the best finisher in the history of the league.

Ruud van Nistelrooy a better finisher than Alan Shearer

Richards spoke about the Manchester United legend alongside Shearer.

“Would you say he’s a better finisher than you (Shearer)? I’m not taking the mick here. Going through one-on-one I’m picking Ruud over anyone. All types of goals I’d pick you, but one on one I’m picking Ruud. His goals to games ratio must be high, it must be ridiculous,” Richards said.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was deadly

Alan Shearer scored more goals than Van Nistelrooy in the Premier League, but, as Richards says, the Dutchman may have been the better finisher.

Van Nistelrooy was ice cold in front of goal, he knew how to find the corner every single time in every single situation.

Of course, Shearer knew what he was doing as well, but, in terms of pure finishing, perhaps Van Nistelrooy was the better player.

Van Nistelrooy was incredible for Manchester United, and while his time in England was cut short after a £10m move to Real Madrid in 2006, he still goes down as an all-time great in the Premier League.
