'Got to keep him': Ally McCoist claims Newcastle simply cannot sell 24-year-old this summer

Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling have implored Newcastle United not to sell one of their star players this summer.

Newcastle United have got some genuine top class talent that could command a huge fee, which would massively help the Magpies with regards to profit and sustainability. Selling someone for big money would allow the club to reinvest further, which is required for Newcastle to get back into the Champions League.

Out of all of Newcastle’s stars, Bruno Guimaraes feels like the most likely to leave. That is largely down to his £100million release clause, while there have been constant rumours about him leaving St James’ Park for a long time.

But his recent decision to buy a new house in the area hints towards him remaining on Tyneside, which is great news for Eddie Howe. Hopefully that proves to be the case, as he is a vital player for the Magpies.

The same goes for 24-year-old Newcastle United star

And the same goes for Alexander Isak, who is another Newcastle United star attracting interest from elsewhere.

Arsenal have been linked with signing the 24-year-old, although talk of him costing £100million is laughable. He will surely command a bigger fee than that, and that is why Newcastle are relaxed behind the scenes about the forward’s future.

The Magpies want to keep him, and that will be music to the ears of pundits Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling.

Stelling and McCoist tell Newcastle exactly what to do with Alexander Isak

Stelling and McCoist have been discussing Isak’s Newcastle future on TalkSPORT (9:51am, 23/04/24), with both pundits eager for the Magpies to retain his services.

Stelling: “Ally, you keep him at all cost, don’t you?”

McCoist: “Everything. You have got to keep him. I watched him against Tottenham. He was excellent against Spurs. It was the first time that Eddie had got the front three of Anthony Gordon switched over to the right, Isak, and Harvey Barnes on the left-hand side, and they were terrific. Brilliant blend, the three of them completely different players and it was a great blend and a wonderful front line. You have to say that Isak has been outstanding, outstanding. You have got to keep him.”

Stelling: “Whatever his contract says now, you rewrite it.”

Newcastle set for contract talks with Isak

Stelling wants Newcastle officials to give Isak a new contract at St James’ Park, and it looks like they could be doing exactly that.

It has been reported by The Boot Room that the Magpies are set to open contract talks with Isak, as they aim to make him one of the club’s highest earners alongside Bruno Guimaraes.

The report states that Isak is set to see his current wages decrease by up to 20%, with Dan Ashworth previously inserting a clause that will see the Newcastle United players lose a portion of their wages due to missing out on the Champions League.

Now Isak could be braced for his wages to go up again, and he is certainly deserving of a new deal. He is enjoying the best season of his career, and is being recognised as the Premier League’s best striker after Erling Haaland.

Isak has netted 21 goals in all competitions for the Magpies, and Toon officials will hope he can replicate those numbers next season and beyond. They do not want to lose Isak, and understandably so.

He is an elite centre-forward, and it is vital that he does not leave St James’ Park this summer.
