‘Genius’: Pundit says £225k-a-week Man City player is so clever on the pitch

Tim Sherwood has named one Manchester City player he feels is so intelligent on the pitch.

The Citizens currently find themselves in another Premier League title race and with the chance to add another FA Cup to their cabinet.

In such a crucial stage of the season, one pundit and former manager has shared some significant praise for one player in Pep Guardiola’s ranks who has played a prominent part in the team this term.

Speaking in a recent edition of Under The Cosh, Sherwood had this to say on the matter.

He said: “For me, Phil Foden is a little genius of a footballer.”

Looking back over the Treble-winning season, Foden featured in 48 games across all competitions, starting 29 of them and finding the back of the net 15 times as well as delivering eight assists.

This time around, the midfielder has started 43 of the 47 games he’s appeared in, scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists.

This shows just how much more of a regular figure he has been in Guardiola’s team this season and how much more prolific he’s been in terms of scoring goals and delivering assists.

Phil Foden has been vital for City this season

In 30 Premier League appearances this season, the 23-year-old, who is currently earning a weekly wage of £225k-a-week, has made the second-highest number of shot-creating actions (120) and goal-creating actions (16) in the City squad.

Foden’s overall performances in the league have earned him a strong season rating of 7.47/10 from WhoScored, leaving only Rodri (7.6/10) and Kevin De Bruyne (7.54/10) with higher ratings than him.

This makes it easy to see why Sherwood thinks the City star is a genius on the pitch in terms of how he plays and is able to set up goalscoring chances for his side as well as score goals himself.

Moving forward, if the Blues do go on to make history and become the first side to win a fourth Premier League title in a row, it’s safe to say that Foden will have been a key part in their success and should be recognised for it by other pundits.
