'Very dangerous': Crystal Palace manager is worried about four Newcastle United players tonight

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is well aware of the threats that Newcastle United will pose tonight.

The Magpies head to Selhurst Park to face the Eagles, with Toon fans hopeful of seeing Callum Wilson back in the squad. Eddie Howe has admitted that the 32-year-old has trained well ahead of the trip down south.

Whether or not Wilson features, Newcastle United should be feeling fresh when they face Crystal Palace. That is the view of Glasner, who is wary that the Magpies have not played in more than a week. Since Howe’s players last kicked a ball, Palace have played twice – and won twice.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace have exciting attacking talent

It should be a very interesting game at Selhurst Park, and one that Paul Merson believes will be quite entertaining.

That seems like an ambitious claim given the history of this fixture, but both sides certainly have the attacking talent capable of putting on a show.

Oliver Glasner wary of four Newcastle United players

Ahead of Wednesday night’s 8pm kickoff at Selhurst Park, Glasner has spoke to the media.

In quotes reported by the Chronicle, the 49-year-old has named four Newcastle United players who his players must keep at bay.

“Isak is always on the jump for running in behind,” he said.

“Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and then midfield, Sean Longstaff, make a lot of runs and are very dangerous, but to control it, we know what they want to do, and it’s again up to us to be ready, to be focused so that we are not surprised by what they do, so that we can anticipate what they are doing.

“But it’s as important what we are doing in our position, that we move the ball quick, that we create chances, that we force them to defend very well.”

Newcastle’s front three are in great form

It is no surprise that Glasner is way of the threat Alexander Isak poses. He is in incredible form right now, and made Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven look silly during the Magpies’ 4-0 win over Spurs.

Isak is red hot in front of goal right now, boasting seven goals in his last six Premier League games. In total, he has got 21 in all competitions.

And his supporting cast is strong too. Anthony Gordon is also enjoying a spectacular season, while Harvey Barnes is playing well too.

Interesting to see Sean Longstaff singled out

But it is surprising to see that the fourth player Glasner has picked out is Sean Longstaff. He is hardly the biggest attacking threat that the Magpies have got, although his runs to the byline can be deadly if they are not picked up.

However, this has been a tough season for the local lad, who has struggled with a niggling injury problem for the majority of the campaign.

Longstaff did score in the reverse fixture though, netting Newcastle’s third in a 4-0 win at St James’ Park.

Perhaps that is why Glasner is more worried about him than someone like Bruno Guimaraes, who has previously been described as world class by Eddie Howe.
