'Remarkable': Johnny Giles insists Daniel Farke has done something amazing since coming to Leeds

Leeds United legend Johnny Giles has been speaking on the job Daniel Farke has done since coming to Elland Road.

Farke was appointed as United boss in July of last year as he inherited a squad and club which was in need of completely fixing after relegation from the Premier League.

The 47-year-old powerlessly watched on as several members of last season’s first team squad departed on loan, of which he is not likely to welcome back into his side.

The Leeds boss also helped oversee the transition of new owners, deal with the complicated situations of Luis Sinisterra and Willy Gnonto, as well as be patient in the hunt for new signings.

And after an understandably slow start to the season, Leeds now have themselves in a position where they are fighting for second place alongside Ipswich Town in these final two weeks of the season.

Giles says Farke has done something ‘remarkable’ since coming to Leeds

Farke has certainly had his fair share of critics this season, though it has more so been from supporters rather than pundits and players.

Leeds have struggled to break down deep defences all season, while his subs have been questionable at times. That said, players such as Junior Firpo have spoken about how much they love playing for him.

And speaking on the latest episode of the Stand With Eamon Dunphy Podcast, former Leeds midfielder Giles gave his opinion on the job Farke has done.

He believes in the circumstances of what he took over last summer, Farke has done a ‘remarkable’ job, but insists he will have to be backed if Leeds reach the Premier League.

He said: “In relation to other clubs and the money situation, what Mr Farke has done since he’s come is remarkable. He got two promotions and two relegations with Norwich and he’s in a similar situation at Leeds.

“Norwich didn’t have two bob to rub together. He did a great job there. If you look at the Leeds situation, he’s done a remarkable job. He hasn’t bought anybody, got rid of some senior players and got a lot of young lads coming in and so they’ve done remarkably well.

“But he needs backing, the teams that come up now are in trouble straight away. They don’t have the finances to compete in the Premier League. So what he’s doing at Leeds is a miracle situation.

“To be where they are and if they do get promoted but don’t spend any money, they are going to be in big trouble like the other teams.”

Leeds record at Loftus Road ahead of QPR clash

Leeds face another absolutely huge match in their push for the top two on Friday night when they make the trip to Queens Park Rangers.

Pundit Jon Newsome believes it is ‘disgusting’ how the EFL have scheduled Leeds’ two matches this week, though it could actually help them pile the pressure on Ipswich.

That said, Leeds will seriously need to improve on their recent record at Loftus Road if they are to come away with all three points this week.

Leeds have won just one of their last seven trips to QPR, which includes three losses in a row. Their last win came back in December 2017, when a Kemar Roofe hattrick ensured a 3-1 win.
