Report: There's a feeling Aston Villa may be forced to sell £50m player with Newcastle keen to sign him

Despite their on-the-pitch success of late, Aston Villa may still be forced to sell a player who has been linked with a Newcastle United move.

It would be a remarkable achievement for the Aston Villa boss, who is now envisioned as a manager who can leave a similar legacy as Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

It’s an ambitious hope, especially given the Spaniard has never spent more than four years in one particular post.

But given what Villa have done on the pitch since Emery was appointed in November 2022, he could create a real legacy.

That being said, despite all of this success, Villa may still be forced to sell a player in the summer to stay on the right side of the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Newcastle United are well aware of those restrictions themselves, perhaps meaning they could have to sell one of Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

However, in this scenario at least, Newcastle may still be able to profit from Villa’s need to level their books.

According to a report by The Athletic, Aston Villa may still be forced to sell Jacob Ramsey in the future, as was feared last January.

Although the club have agreed some more lucrative sponsorship deals of late, Villa’s big losses they posted for last season are still considerable.

And via this information, there’s a feeling at the club that a current first-team player may still need to be sold for a sizeable profit.

Newcastle United were interested in Jacob Ramsey in January, who is rated at around £50m, and that is a deal which could ease those PSR fears.

22-year-old Ramsey has endured a disrupted season owing to a foot injury, and will miss the remainder of the campaign.

But there’s no doubting the midfielder’s enormous talent when fully fit, and he would be a loss for Unai Emery.

However, Aston Villa’s loss really could be Newcastle’s gane, who are still lacking a player who can fulfil a maverick-like number 10 role.

All that being said, TBR Football does have an exclusive update on a £50m player Villa are targeting themselves.
