‘Tough one’: Mikel Arteta gives Tottenham a compliment ahead of the North London Derby on Sunday

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has praised Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Sunday’s North London Derby.

The Gunners head into the derby off the back of a 5-0 win over Chelsea last night and seem to have recovered from a bump in the road.

As for Ange Postecoglou’s side, they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at St James’ Park 11 days ago and will need all three points to keep their top-four hopes alive.

Tottenham currently trail Aston Villa by six points but do have two games in hand over their top-four rivals.

However, Spurs face a tough test against Arsenal this Sunday before heading to Stamford Bridge and Anfield the following week.

It’s fair to say that Villa are favourites to land a place in the Champions League at this stage. But Mikel Arteta is expecting a tough game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Arsenal’s emphatic win over Chelsea last night, Arteta commented on the upcoming trip to Spurs.

“The Sunday one is going to be a tough one against a top side again, as we know,” the Arsenal boss said.

“So let’s enjoy tonight and then let’s go back to work.”

Arsenal’s record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The Gunners picked up their first win at Tottenham’s new stadium last season. Before the 2-0 victory back in January last year, Arsenal had lost all three games at Spurs’ home.

Indeed, Arteta’s side had scored just once at Tottenham’s stadium while conceding seven goals.

A particularly crushing defeat came during the 2021-22 campaign when Antonio Conte’s side beat Arsenal 3-0.

The defeat led to the Gunners missing out on Champions League football to Tottenham that year. But it’s fair to say that Arsenal have gone from strength to strength since.

The game on Sunday represents a huge obstacle for Arsenal’s title hopes and is widely viewed as their sternest test before the season ends.

A win away to their rivals would put them in a brilliant position but Tottenham will undoubtedly be desperate to spoil the party.
