'Even now...': Luke Bolton issues heartfelt Wrexham rallying cry ahead of Stockport County finale

Luke Bolton has issued a rallying cry to his Wrexham teammates ahead of their season finale against Stockport County.

Wrexham and Stockport lock horns on the final day of the campaign as the title winners travel to the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday lunchtime.

Many supporters felt this would have been a season-defining fixture at one point, but since the Reds wrapped up promotion at home to Forest Green Rovers, Phil Parkinson‘s men can enjoy the final game of the campaign without worrying about any permutations.

As Wrexham look to cap off their League Two journey in style, it promises to be an emotional day as several players – including Ben Tozer and Luke Young – bid their farewell to the club.

The long-serving veterans see their contracts expire in the summer, along with six other first-teamers, as Parkinson wants to resolve his players’ futures as soon as possible.

While Parkinson has one eye on the summer, Luke Bolton is only focused on the fixture against Stockport.

Bolton arrived from Salford City in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old was expected to stamp his authority on the right wing-back position but has struggled to dislodge Ryan Barnett who has proven to be an immovable object.

Bolton’s last involvement for Wrexham came in the 1-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers, as the Manchester City academy graduate was substituted at half-time for Barnett.

Despite seeing his opportunities restricted from the bench, the attacking wing-back has summarized the mentality of his Wrexham teammates by issuing a rallying cry ahead of their clash against Stockport.

“We want to win every game that we play,” Bolton told The Leader. “Okay, we are promoted but it doesn’t mean that we down tools now.

“That’s not the group we are and that’s not the staff that we have either.

“We prepare for every game professionally, even now after getting promoted, and can’t wait for the weekend.”

Wrexham can break six-year record against Stockport

Bolton hasn’t played as much as he would have liked recently, but he has led by example with his words off the pitch as his side eye up another record.

Wrexham can cap off their short journey in the fourth tier by breaking Luton Town’s record of 62 home goals, which was set in the 2017/18 season.

Parkinson’s men are currently on 60 for the campaign, with their 6-0 thrashing of Forest Green helping them get close to that total.

To put it simply, if the Reds score three goals against the title winners, they will set a new record for goals scored at home in a single campaign, giving Wrexham an extra incentive to end their season on a high.
