Manchester United could become the second team all season in the Premier League to suffer unfortunate fate

Manchester United face Sheffield United in the Premier League tonight, looking to move past the FA Cup clash with Coventry City.

There are always new depths Manchester United can sink to. Don’t for one second think tonight’s game with Sheffield United is straightforward.

Sheffield United are bottom of the Premier League, and likely to be playing in the same division as Coventry next season.

They also have nothing to lose at this point, amid a dire campaign. All the pressure is on Manchester United.

Sheffield United’s away record

Manchester United have home advantage, but the team’s home record is not as strong as it was last season.

United’s home record is only the 10th best in the Premier League, with eight wins, two draws and five defeats from 15 games at Old Trafford.

Visitors Sheffield United have had a tough season, they have won only three matches.

Only one of these have come away from home. This was a recent away victory over relegation rivals Luton Town.

From 16 away games they have one win, three draws, and 12 defeats.

The chance to win at Old Trafford is an opportunity for them to go down swinging, and they will believe they might be capable of claiming a major scalp.

Sheffield United won their last game at Old Trafford

Sheffield United actually won on their last game at Old Trafford, a surprise 2-1 victory back in January 2021.

This was a game which killed off hopes United might be able to mount a title charge under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season after a strong month.

Chris Wilder was Sheffield United boss at the time, and he is now back in charge of the Blades after Paul Heckingbottom was fired earlier this season.

The 2-1 defeat in 2021 is also notable because the game is the last time Anthony Martial played 90 minutes for Manchester United in a Premier League match.

Earlier this season Manchester United won the game between the two teams 2-1 at Bramall Lane, with Diogo Dalot scoring the winner.
