Report: European club want 'gifted' Manchester United talent as Liverpool open talks to snatch their manager

Manchester United face a managerial decision this summer with Erik ten Hag remaining under huge pressure in the Old Trafford dugout.

You could even argue that Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City has actually ramped up the pressure even higher.

That may sound bizarre given United won, but the manner of the victory was concerning.

It’s one thing to have some struggles against Premier League teams, but to squander a 3-0 lead against a Championship side?

Ten Hag will point to bad luck; deflections, penalties, injuries, whatever it may be, but that just isn’t acceptable for United.

United completely lost control of the game and were just centimetres away from being dumped out in extra time as Coventry had a winner ruled out.

Scraping through on penalties isn’t good enough and as Ten Hag fights to prove that he deserves to stay at United, rivals Liverpool are closing in on their new manager.

Liverpool look to appoint former Ten Hag opponent

Liverpool have been in the market for a new manager with Jurgen Klopp on his way out of Anfield this summer.

The Reds are now mirroring United’s 2022 move for Ten Hag by picking an Eredivisie boss for a big move.

Feyenoord’s Arne Slot is the man Liverpool want and Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy claims that talks are now ongoing between the two clubs.

If Ten Hag keeps his job at United, he will again face off against Slot in a big derby, just as he did during Ajax v Feyenoord games.

An interesting quirk is that Slot beat Ten Hag twice whilst managing AZ Alkmaar, but then lost in his two meetings with Ten Hag at Feyenoord.

Ten Hag may relish the chance to go up against Slot in the Premier League and may actually see a United talent head to Feyenoord just as Slot departs.

Feyenoord want Hannibal Mejbri

Give Me Sport claim that Feyenoord are now showing a keen interest in signing Manchester United talent Hannibal Mejbri.

It’s suggested that Feyenoord are confident that they can get Hannibal back on track with a move to Rotterdam.

The 21-year-old only started one Premier League game for United this season before heading to Sevilla in January, where he has played just 90 minutes of league action despite being praised as ‘very gifted’ by boss Quique Sanchez Flores.

This has been a lost season for Hannibal and Feyenoord are now hoping to sign him and give him a chance to develop at De Kuip.

Feyenoord’s transfer business is driven by technical director Dennis te Kloese, so Slot’s seemingly imminent exit may not scupper the move.

Still, Feyenoord will need to find a new manager soon enough and will have to ponder whether Hannibal fits the bill under Slot’s replacement.

Slot’s expected move to Liverpool is a potential spanner in the works for Hannibal and a potential escape route, but United may hope that Feyenoord remain interested despite their manager’s anticipated exit.

Hannibal needs to be playing now and with just one year left on his contract, this seems to be the ideal time for United to cash in on the midfielder whilst potentially inserting a buy-back clause into a deal.

The Tunisian is bound to have suitors elsewhere too but United will now wait to hear whether Feyenoord remain keen or whether Slot’s exit changes their plans this summer.
