“More than anyone” - Ex-Ger manager tells team quality that makes 17-goal striker an ideal Ibrox signing

Shopping on a budget is never easy, especially with the size of rebuild that Rangers need to make under Philippe Clement.

The manager has been able to get more out of the squad than a couple of his predecessors but will be looking to add his own players in the summer.

Philippe Clement likes his players to be aggressive, energetic and put the team first and one possible target has shown that he has exactly the qualities needed to be a success for Rangers.

Che Adams proves he has mentality to be Rangers striker

Cyriel Dessers has spoken recently about how important mentality is in front of a packed Ibrox.

At first, he struggled to deal with the pressure, but his form since Philippe Clement arrived suggests that he is handling it just fine now.

Whether the Nigeria international has done enough to win over the critics won’t truly be known until the end of the season.

Dessers has had to carry the striking burden almost on his own.

Danilo has been hugely unlucky with injury and Kemar Roofe has been hugely consistent with injury.

The Brazilian signed from Feyenoord for around £6m should be raring to go next season, but a replacement for Roofe is essential.

One who has the mentality that Clement demands is Che Adams who has had a fine season with Southampton.

Former Rangers defender Russell Martin is the man in charge at St Mary’s and, despite a crushing blow to their automatic promotion hopes in a 5-0 loss to Leicester City, Adams was still singled out for praise via the Daily Echo:

“I told them Che Adams is out of contract in the summer. He’s the one person probably with an excuse in there.

“An excuse if he didn’t really want to be all in and really show care and work so hard for his team. He does that more than anyone.

“So it’s inexcusable for anyone else to not do that.”

Adams could be a summer bargain for Rangers

Playing for Rangers has always been about mentality.

Look at players who come through the academy.

Ross McCausland and Nathan Patterson, the two most recent to make a real impact, were never the best players in their age group.

What they were though, were two of the hardest working – on the pitch and in training.

They deserved their chance and they took it.

It’s the same with Che Adams.

The Scotland international didn’t grow up in an academy, 10 years ago he was playing non-league football as a 17-year old.

Every opportunity he has been given, he has worked hard for.

As a player, he’s always been known as one who puts the team first, who chases every lost cause and creates problems for defenders by not letting them settle.

With 17 goals and five assists this season, he has also shown that he can still score goals if given the chances.

Plenty of players who might not have been considered world beaters have gone on to be fan favourites at Rangers because of their attitude and mentality.

Rod Wallace springs to mind, but he also scored goals.

On a free transfer and as a replacement for Kemar Roofe, there are few better options this summer than Che Adams.
