Silvera axed, 18-year-old starts: Middlesbrough's predicted XI vs Cardiff as Carrick makes three changes - opinion

Middlesbrough are back in Championship action this weekend, as they face Cardiff City away.

Michael Carrick‘s side put in a battling performance against Leeds United on Monday evening and despite a 4-3 defeat, it was one of the best all season.

Carry that into Cardiff and they should have no issues in picking up three points, particularly with the form Emmanuel Latte Lath is showing.

The former Atalanta forward was at the double against Leeds, taking his tally to 16 goals across all competitions and nine in his last 10.

Boro News have predicted Carrick’s line-up against The Bluebirds and provided all the latest injury and team news.

Middlesbrough have seen key players return in recent weeks but still they have a pretty long list of injuries.

Hayden Hackney, Josh Coburn and Dael Fry were all absent for the Riverside clash against Leeds but could yet play a part in the final two games of the season.

Darragh Lenihan has recently been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, joining Marcus Forss, Riley McGree and Tommy Smith.

Middlesbrough predicted XI vs Cardiff City

In goal, Seny Dieng will retain his usual place between the sticks, though, he’ll have a slightly changed defence ahead of him.

Afernee Dijksteel endured a torrid time against Leeds and should drop to the bench, with Luke Ayling now back available.

Aside from that, Rav ven den Berg, Matt Clarke and Luke Thomas should all remain in the line-up.

Moving into midfield, Daniel Barlaser steps in, with Jonny Howson dropping out. Barlaser is one of the best passers in the squad and deserves more game time.

Partnering him will be Lewis O’Brien, who has really stepped up a gear in recent weeks.

Sammy Silvera just didn’t do enough against Leeds to justify another start, so in comes 18-year-old Sonny Finch.

Finch has a phenomenal goal record at youth level and Carrick should hand him his big chance to impress.

Finn Azaz, Isaiah Jones and Latte Lath all assume their usual place in the first 11.

Middlesbrough (4-2-3-1): Dieng; Ayling, van den Berg, Clarke, Thomas; Barlaser, O’Brien; Jones, Azaz, Finch; Latte Lath.
