Report: £190k-a-week Red Bull man about to announce his departure, ‘experts’ see him joining Ferrari

The power struggle at Red Bull Racing this season appeared to throw Max Verstappen’s future into doubt.

Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen weren’t seeing eye to eye with a split appearing in the camp.

A report from the German outlet Auto Motor und Sport suggests there’s already one major casualty of this falling out.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has been trying to take full advantage of what’s going wrong behind the scenes at Red Bull.

He’s desperate to replace Lewis Hamilton with Max Verstappen and is willing to offer him terms that even the seven-time world champion hasn’t received.

His future is often connected with Helmut Marko and a clause in the Dutchman’s contract means he can leave if the Austrian decides to walk away.

However, it’s now been suggested that genius designer Adrian Newey is getting ready to announce his departure from the team.

The 65-year-old has overseen more than a dozen Constructors’ Championships during his career and worked alongside Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel during their periods of domination in Formula 1.

Now, it looks like he might be considering a new challenge alongside another legend of the sport…

Adrian Newey preparing to announce Red Bull Racing’s departure

The report from AMuS reveals plenty of interesting details about Newey’s situation at Red Bull.

They suggest that it’s not yet entirely clear whether he’ll be allowed to leave given his contract doesn’t officially expire until the end of 2025.

Christian Horner wanted Newey to concentrate more on the RB17 hypercar project, moving him slightly away from his F1 duties.

However, this isn’t necessarily what he wants and Aston Martin are one team who are interested in Newey and would let him work on other projects if he desires.

AMuS suggest that Newey wants to be free of his current Red Bull projects by the end of the calendar year.

His salary is similar to some top drivers of the grid – AMuS believe it to be £195,000 – but that won’t put off any teams on the grid.

‘Experts’ suggest that Newey’s next destination after he announces his departure from Red Bull will be Ferrari.

After years of two of Formula 1’s greatest talents admiring each other from afar, Newey and Lewis Hamilton may finally be in line to work together for the first time…
