EU Parliament demands Kremlin interference dealt with amid AfD affair

The European Parliament plans to take decisive action against possible attempts at interference from the Kremlin in June's election and elsewhere in the European Union.

In a resolution passed in Strasbourg on Thursday, members of the European Parliament (MEPs) reacted to MEP Maximilian Krah of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party being questioned by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over suspicions he received money from Kremlin agents.

MEPs also demanded the German far-right party "publicly declares without delay its financial relations, especially with the Kremlin," an EU Parliament statement said.

An aide to Krah has also been arrested by Germany on charges of spying for China while there have been allegations that other MEPs have spread Russian propaganda in return for payment.

According to the MEPs' proposal, the EU Parliament's internal security should be improved and internal investigations strengthened.

It also called for mandatory security training for MEPs and staff.
